Getting Started

On December 24th, 2009, my niece, Beth, wrote the following on her Facebook page:

I learned something new today. There was a lot of good music made prior to this decade. Better, even, than the music made in this decade. Where have I been?

Where indeed? I, of course, made some snide remark about her poor taste in music (note the ICP Hatchetman tattoo she sports) and she replied thusly:

[I]n general, my musical knowledge is extremely limited. You should make me a CD, songs that every person should know of, that I most likely don't. Get me started on a new path!

While I'm not great at telling people what music they should and should not know, I am great at spreading the word about what I enjoy. I compiled a four-hour long playlist for Beth in my iTunes, but to burn them onto CDs would be sooooo two-thousand and late.

Hence this blog, where I hope to educate Beth on what she has been missing. Some of it will be essentials of decades past, some of it will be new stuff I find, and most of it will tread off the beaten path. So, without further ado, let's start our engines.
